Senghenydd Youth Drop in Centre has been awarded a grant of £12,800 over two years from the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales.
The funding will contribute to the salary costs of two part-time youth development capacity workers.
The charity was set up with the aim to engage, encourage and help Aber Valley youngsters aged between 11 and 25. The centre provides a fully-fledged youth service that offers advice, careers and employment assistance, as well as an alternative curriculum programme for disadvantaged young people excluded from school.
The grant money will be used to establish a mentoring system for youth club members.
Laurie Lazenby, monitoring and evaluation support officer said: “Senghenydd Youth Drop in Centre provides a vital and much-needed service for young people. The funding from the Foundation will contribute to developing the young people’s capacity to learn, their knowledge base and confidence, so that they are able to become self-aware and positive role models, making beneficial contributions to their community.”
This year, the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales has over £60,000 to invest in charities specifically working with disadvantaged people in Caerphilly as part of its Community Programme. Over the last year the Foundation invested over £1 million pounds in Wales.
Mike Lewis, Grant Manager for Wales at the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales said: “Senghenydd Youth Drop in Centre is an example of one of the charities in Caerphilly that the Foundation supports to make a significant difference to the lives of people. We welcome applications from other charities in the area that work with disadvantaged people.”
The Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales supports charities that help disadvantaged people to play a fuller role in the community.
