Coleg Gwent has won two awards for its educational standards at a national conference.

The college scooped the awards at a ceremony recognising Learndirect providers across Wales, including awards for course enrolment and essential skills delivery.

It was commended for the significant number of new students that had enrolled on courses across its five campuses.

During the 2011/12 academic year, Coleg Gwent enrolled 3,449 new learners on a total of 16,463 courses, equating to 28% of the all Wales total of courses for the year.

Recognising the support offered by the college in English and Maths, the essential skills delivery award was given to Coleg Gwent after it delivered 49% of the total Learndirect essential skills for Wales during 2011/12.

Fiona Heaton, Learndirect Partnership Co-ordinator at Coleg Gwent said: “The Learndirect awards are a significant achievement for Coleg Gwent, as we work hard to provide support to so many learners. The awards are the ultimate indicator of how well we are performing as an educational institute.”
