A prisoner who went on the run after absconding from a South Gloucestershire Open prison has been arrested by Gwent Police.

Stephen Rees, aged 31, and Liam Ahearne, aged 24, absconded from HMP Leyhill at around 9pm on Wednesday January 30, 2013.

Ahearne was serving an indeterminate sentence for aggravated burglary and Rees for wounding.

Police have said Rees was arrested on Friday February 22 and remains in police custody.
