Charitable Caerphilly company receive council support

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 12:41, Tuesday March 5th, 2013.

A Caerphilly company which makes sweet collection boxes for charity is to expand after financial support from Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Hurleys International Foods Ltd, based in Pantglas Industrial Estate in Caerphilly, received funding under the Local Investment Fund Grant Scheme in order to purchase capital equipment which will assist in expanding the business.

The firm supply and distribute confectionary products for vending machines across the United Kingdom. They also produce honesty boxes for charities, including Help for Heroes, NSPCC and Childline.

Part of the profits raised from the sale of the honesty boxes is then donated back to the charity. Childline in particular has received £47,000 in the last six months from the company.

Cllr Ken James, cabinet member for regeneration, planning and sustainable sevelopment, said: “I am pleased that we have been able to help expand the business of this philanthropic firm. In difficult economic times, this company is thriving and charitable organisations will also benefit from the support we have been able to offer.”

Paul Beales, Finance Director of Hurleys Foods, said: “The help both financial and otherwise from the Business Enterprise Support Team have been invaluable in helping our company become the number one company in the UK for our tower vending supply operation.

“We now employ many local people that we wouldn’t have been able to otherwise do and source many products from other local businesses. We feel very privileged to be associated with the Business Enterprise Support Team and proud that we have been able to raise much needed funds for major charities and that we will be able to continue to do so over the coming years.”

The Local Investment Fund Grant Scheme is offered to local businesses thanks to the European Regional Development Fund.
