Councillors have agreed to write off more than £55,000 owed to it by companies that have gone out of business.
Caerphilly County Borough Council’s cabinet agreed this week to write the debt off after being told in a report that it was unlikely to ever get the money.
Company Monnington Leisure, which was based at the Maes Manor Hotel, Blackwood, owed £29,845.99 while The Recycling People 2011 (Wales) Ltd owed £25,203.59.
Monnington Leisure traded until November 16 2011 and had owed rates of £35,233.99 covering a period from April 2011 but only only £5,388 was ever paid back.
The Recycling People 2011 (Wales) Ltd was based on the Heads of the Valleys Industrial Estate, Rhymney, and owed rates of £52,740.70 covering the period from April 1 to October 1 2012. Of this, £27,537.11 was paid back.
The money are included in a half-yearly report to the policy and resources scrutiny committee listing amount owed to the council that cannot be paid.
