Two singing friends are hoping to hit the right notes in a musical theatre competition.

Lewis Girls School pupil Katie Phillips, 13, from Treharris, and 16-year-old Anya O’Callaghan from Rhydyfelin will be taking the stage in full costume this Sunday for the semi-final of the Star of Stage competition.

Katie said: “I am so excited that I’m through to the semi finals. I sang ‘Forget about The Boy’ from ‘Thoroughly Modern Milly’ for my solo performance and ‘In His Eyes’ from ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ as my duet with Anya.

“I cannot wait until the semi-finals as we get to wear full costume and its in front of a live audience. All my family and friends are all behind me egging me on and my school has been really supportive too.

“One of the judges in this competition is Connie Fisher who I would love to meet. I love Musical Theatre and this is all I want to do when I’m older. I am very musical. I sing and just passed my Grade 5 singing exams and I also play flute.”

Anya added: “I’m currently studying for my GCSEs which I’m sitting this summer. I have a passion for singing and love musical theatre. I decided to audition for Star of Stage to gain experience and build my confidence.”

The semi-final takes place on March 10 in Cardiff Masonic Hall.
