A breastfeeding support group for Caerphilly mums has been nominated for three national awards.
Full Circle was set-up in 2011 and is run on a voluntary basis at Caerphilly town’s Twyn Community Centre.
The group has been nominated in three categories in the annual What’s On 4 Little Ones Junior Awards, which recognises baby, toddler and children’s groups from across the UK.
Jessica Starr, one of the founders of Full Circle, has also been nominated in the ‘Most Outstanding Community Group Volunteer’ category.
She said: “Thank you so much to everyone who nominated us. We are so grateful, and to be honest a bit blown away.
“That is not where it ends though. Now we’ve been nominated we would quite like to win. To make that happen please go to the awards page and vote for us.”
The group has been nominated for “Best Pre/Post Natal Activity”, “Best Local Activity for the Under 5s” and “Most Outstanding Baby and Toddler Group”.
Full Circle is run on a voluntary basis by local mothers who had all experienced problems breastfeeding their own babies and were disappointed with the lack of support and understanding about breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding rates in Caerphilly are the second lowest in Wales with only eight out of every 100 mothers following Government recommendation of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months.
Full Circle Breastfeeding Support Group is held at the Twyn Community Centre every Tuesday from 1pm until 3pm.
It is free to attend and refreshments are provided. For more information visit www.fullcirclebsg.co.uk
