A council scheme which combines library and leisure centre membership cards has hit 100,000.
Launched by Caerphilly County Borough Council in September 2007, the initiative allows residents and visitors to Caerphilly county borough access to all of the Leisure Centres and Libraries across the county borough. Concessionary prices are also supported by the scheme.
Cllr Dave Poole, cabinet member for community and leisure services, said: “It is an amazing achievement that we have been able to supply 100,000 people with SmartCards in just over five years, well over half of the total population of the county borough.
“The 100,000 people who make use of their cards benefit from the fantastic facilities we offer across the county borough, helping to make their lives active, healthy and fulfilling.”
The 100,000th member will be announced shortly by the council and will receive a number of prizes including a year’s free family membership to county borough leisure centres, one year’s free DVD and game rentals from libraries and a free family ticket to watch ‘Aston’s Stones’ at Blackwood Miners’ Institute.
