Islwyn MP Chris Evans teamed up with students from Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni, in Fleur-de-Lys, recently to wish Wales a happy fifth anniversary as a ‘Fair Trade Nation’.

Since becoming the very first ‘Fair Trade Nation’ five years ago, Wales has helped some 1.5 million farmers in the developing world out of poverty.

To mark the occasion, students on Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni’s Eco-Committee have been busy encouraging friends and families to do their bit for the developing world by raising awareness of Fair Trade issues.

Mr Evans said: “I was delighted to meet with Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni’s Eco-Committee to celebrate Wales’ fifth year as a fair trade nation. From meeting with the students it is clear that we can all do our bit the developing world.

“Something as simple as buying fair trade chocolate or tea can ensure that farmers get a fair deal on their produce.
