The number of people unemployed in Wales has fallen to 120,000, according to figures published by Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The latest figure shows 8.2% of the working population is unemployed. Between December and February the unemployment rate was down by 3,000 on the previous three months.
The overall Welsh number of unemployment is also down 11,000 compared with the same period in 2012.
Shadow Minister for Business Nick Ramsay AM said: “While these figures are extremely welcome, it is clear that Wales’ economic recovery remains fragile.
“Recent job losses – including those at Welsh Country Foods in Gaerwen – demonstrate why no-one can be complacent.
“Over one million Welsh workers are reaping the rewards of the UK Government’s increase in the personal allowance and measures in the Budget prove how hard UK ministers are working to keep Wales on the right path.
“Welsh Labour Ministers also have a duty to do all they can to maximise economic growth and measures to improve inward investment, infrastructure and small business support should all be improved.”
Janet Jones, Welsh Policy Unit Chair for the Federation of Small Businesses, welcomed the fall but said the figures also showed no real improvement in job creation.
She said: “While these new figures show a quarter on quarter decrease of 3,000 in the number of unemployed people in Wales, they also show that the total number of people in the Welsh workforce remained static at 1.35 million.
“Given that, these figures appear to reflect the fact that there are 3,000 less economically active people in Wales, rather than any improvement in job creation and the outlook for jobseekers.
“Small businesses are a key driver in the creation of jobs, and if we are to really see more jobs being created in Wales then we need to see greater support for our SMEs and entrepreneurs.”
