A ten-year-old boy has been named his school’s first Bard.

Chad Huxton, of Ysgol Cwm Derwen in Oakdale, was presented with a commemorative medal at a school assembly last Friday by former leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council Allan Pritchard.

Mr Pritchard gifted a special Bard’s chair to the school for the occasion.

Acting headteacher Kathryn Matthews said: “Chad was over the moon at becoming our school Bard at our St David’s Day Eisteddfod, when the new Eisteddfod chair was unveiled.

“He was also delighted to receive his commemorative medal from Mr Pritchard for winning the chair.”

Mrs Matthews added: “The presentation of the medal was the icing on the cake as it would be a permanent reminder to Chad of his achievement at Ysgol Cwm Derwen in 2013.”

Chad was also chosen to present Mr Pritchard with a reciprocal medal at the school assembly in recognition of his past leadership of the council.
