TV star Ruth Jones, known to millions of viewers as Gavin and Stacey’s Nessa, is to help launch a charity funday and walk in Bedwas.
A one mile walk and charity funday is being held on Saturday May 11 to raise awareness of cot death.
The event, is being held to raise money for the Lullaby Trust, which used to be known as the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID). It is taking place at the Greenly, Bedwas, at 11am.
The one mile walk has been organised by Alison Hall and her family in memory of her son.
Alison’s baby boy Aaron died suddenly 24 years ago and together with her mother Kathy Dobson, sister Sue Heath and friend Babs Turner, she has organised a sponsored Mile in Memory walk and balloon release as a tribute to her son.
It will be the second walk organised locally, with 2012’s event raising £6,000.
Ruth, who is currently filming TV series Stella, said: “I am delighted to be able to launch Aaron’s Mile in Memory. All the proceeds raised will help support The Lullaby Trust’s work with families who have been affected by similar tragedies.
“Five babies like Aaron die suddenly every week in the UK, and their parents are never given a cause for their deaths. The charity’s bereavement services help families through some of the darkest times. Without specialist support they would be overwhelmed by grief and unable to move forward.”
Ruth will be available from 10am for photos and autographs before starting the walk at 11am.
The walk will start and finish at The Fly and there will also be a host of family events and live entertainment including games, toy stalls, a barbecue and performances from the young street dance world champions from Ebbw Vale, Kemistry, Louise Hall, one of Wales’ top female vocalists, and contributions from many other professional artists.
Participants of the walk will each carry a balloon before they’re released en mass.
Entertainment will continue into the night from 7pm at the ‘Fly. Tickets for the evening cost £4 and can be bought on the door.
