Blackwood Showfield has been giving a fresh new look banishing blank walls and unsightly graffiti with a piece of new public art.

There have been a number of artworks popping up on shop fronts, underpasses, youth shelters and public building across Caerphilly County Borough thanks to local artist Bryce Davies.

Working in partnership with Caerphilly County Borough Council, Bryce starts a project with a workshop in the local community or local school using the ideas gathered to inspire an image that depicts the history and culture of the area.

The latest project at Blackwood Showfield depicts a panorama of both the Sirhowy and Rhymney Valleys. The neighbouring Band Hall has also been painted with some iconic imagery with musical and historical themes.

Councillor Dave Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, said: “This work has certainly helped to brighten up some of our public spaces. Working with local youths and school pupils is helping to stimulate interest and engender more pride in our environment. The feedback from locals has also been positive and it reaffirms our continuing commitment to improve all parts of our built and natural environment.”
