Tyres slashed at Trethomas care company

A company which looks after adults with learning disabilities was left “devastated” after vandals caused £1,600 worth of damage to its cars.

On Sunday May 5 at 4.10am, two people wearing black hooded tops and black gloves, slashed the tyres of cars in the car park of Partnership of Care Ltd on The Avenue, Trethomas. In total, 15 tyres were slashed.

Janine Darling, managing director of Partnership of Care said the attack on the cars was “devastating”.

She said: “The work we do here means we need the cars. It was quite upsetting that someone came in through the gates, slashed the tyres and walked back out closing the gates – it was bizarre.

“It is upsetting not because of the cost, but it upset the people we support. It’s not nice to do that to people with autism.

“The way they walked in was so brazen, it makes no sense.”

The incident was caught on CCTV, although the vandals’ faces are covered with hoods.

Staff discovered the damage when they came in at 8.30am on Sunday and because of the bank holiday, not all of the cars could be fixed to take people out on day trips.

Ms Darling added that resourceful staff used their own cars and arranged other transport from within the company meaning no trips were cancelled.

The firm has now improved its security.

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to call Gwent Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
