Caerphilly MP Wayne David has said Wednesday’s Queen Speech, where the UK Government sets out its legislative plans, “lacked substance”.
The MP, who is also Shadow Minister for Political and Constitutional Reform, spoke in a debate on the Queens’s Speech in the House of Commons.
He said the speech was “hardly an earth shattering event” and that it contained “few proposals for legislation and even fewer ideas for the direction for the country”.
He also criticised the UK Government for not including proposals for a register of lobbyists and legislation for plain cigarette packets.
Mr David also highlighted that the only constitutional proposal in the speech was for an Act to change the electoral arrangements for the Welsh Assembly. This means candidates could stand in a constituency and have their names on the regional list – something Mr David said would help the Conservative Party gain AMs.
