All Wales summer anti drink drive campaign 2013 launched

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 15:00, Tuesday June 4th, 2013.

The four Welsh police forces have launched their joint summer drink drive campaign for 2013.

Police claim that during the summer months, with an increase in parties and barbecues, instances of drink driving increase.

The month long campaign, launched by Gwent Police, will see an increase in stop checks on motorists.

Chief Inspector Paul Evans, of Gwent Police, said: “Any amount of alcohol affects your ability to drive and this is what people need to understand.

“It’s not possible to say how much alcohol you can drink and stay below the limit so if you’re driving it’s better not to take the risk – don’t drink anything at all. The consequences can be devastating not only for you the driver, but other innocent people on the road.

“Of course we are always identifying and prosecuting those drink-driving as part of our normal patrols but during the campaign officers across Wales will be increasing highway patrols to target those breaking the law.”
