Over 15,000 people turned up to see the beach come to Blackwood over the weekend – as the Blackwood Summer Festival was back in town.
The annual event was a massive success this year, with fun for the whole family attracting visitors from far and wide to Blackwood High Street.
Residents and visitors were able to spend the sunshine as if they were at the seaside, with an urban beach area and donkey rides available. There were also street entertainers, costumed characters, exotic animals and children’s funfair rides for an exciting summer day out.
Cllr Ken James, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Sustainable Development, said: “What a fantastic turn out for yet another wonderful event in our county borough.
“Blackwood High Street has suffered the loss of a store quite recently so the amazing number of visitors who showed up this weekend will be a major support to the retailers and services which were affected during the aftermath of the fire which devastated the Poundstretcher store.”
He added: “I am confident that we can continue to build on this event year after year and look forward to seeing even bigger numbers of visitors next year.”
