A Welsh Assembly worker from Rudry is among a team of charity cyclists raising cash for Cancer Research Wales and the T? Hafan children’s hospice.
John Chick, the Assembly’s Head of Members’ Business Support, is riding with ten other colleagues on a 250-mile charity bike ride from the Assembly’s Colwyn Bay office to the Senedd in Cardiff.
The team of eleven riders aims to complete the journey, mostly along the route of the Lon Las trail, in five days, arriving at the Senedd on 19 August.
So far £1,000 has been raised for Cancer Research Wales and the T? Hafan children’s hospice in the Vale of Glamorgan, with the aim of raising a total of £2,000.
Mr Chick, who last year completed a gruelling 10,000 kilometre journey bike ride from Cardiff to Turkey and back, said: “I am delighted to see so many of my colleagues getting involved in this fundraising journey.
“None of those taking part are members of cycling clubs and for most of them it’s the first time they’ve embarked on a cycle journey of this length.
“So I’d like to thank them for their efforts and their commitment to raising money for these two charities.”
Rosemary Butler AM, the Assembly’s Presiding Officer, said: “I’d like to wish all those taking part the best of luck ahead of what sounds like a demanding journey.
“It is fantastic to see Assembly staff committing to this fundraising effort and raising money for such good causes.”
