£3.3million facelift for Caerphilly County Borough roads

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 15:00, Monday June 6th, 2011.

Roads across Caerphilly County Borough are being resurfaced in a £3.3million council repair project this year.

More than 50km of roads ar being resurfaced at 117 separate locations across the county borough. About 60% of the work has already been completed.

Caerphilly Council leader Allan Pritchard said: “Our highway network is the council’s biggest asset and is estimated to be valued at approximately £1 billion.

“This huge investment clearly shows that we are committed to ensuring our roads are maintained to a high standard and further contributes to the success the council has had in reducing road accidents.”

Cllr Rob Gough, cabinet member for transportation and planning said: “The bad weather that we experienced over the winter months led to the deterioration of our highway network, so we are using this funding to target blackspots and deliver improvements using a comprehensive package of resurfacing works.”

The work has been funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and Caerphilly County Borough Council.
