Three people have been arrested in Caerphilly town after reports of a group of men were driving around in possession of a gun.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: “We received a report at 2.45pm on Thursday August 29 that a number of men were seen in a vehicle on Cardiff Road, Caerphilly with what looked like a firearm.

“The vehicle was stopped by police, and has been recovered for examination. Three men have been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences, one of those was also arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs and one was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a class A drug.”

The spokeswoman added rumours that Lloyds Bank was robbed are untrue.

Eyewitnesses said a green Volkswagen Golf was pulled over outside Caerphilly Social Club with ten police vehicles and 30 officers swarming around it before the arrests were made.
