1,100 helped by Safer Caerphilly Community Safety Partnership

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 09:08, Tuesday September 17th, 2013.

Nearly 1,100 victims and witnesses in Caerphilly County Borough have benefited from a service offering support and guidance to help tackle antisocial behaviour.

The Safer Caerphilly Community Safety Partnership has offered specialist support to victims and witnesses of antisocial behaviour since May 2009 through Victim Support.

In February 2010, Lana Harrison was appointed as Victims’ Champion and she and specially trained volunteers have to date provided a free and confidential service to 1,098 people.

They received advice and support, practical and emotional assistance, and the scheme can even provide support should a victim or witness of antisocial behaviour be required to attend court.

Councillor Dave Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, said: “By offering this innovative service, the Safer Caerphilly Community Safety Partnership is providing a dual approach to tackling antisocial behaviour.”

He added: “The partnership takes an extremely tough stance on antisocial behaviour and I am pleased that through our Victim Champion and her team of volunteers we are helping residents to go about their lives feeling safe and secure in their communities.”

Those interested in volunteering with the scheme can call 01495 235441.
