Search is on for oldest fridge or freezer in Caerphilly County Borough

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 14:08, Thursday September 26th, 2013.

The search is on for the oldest fridge or freezer in Caerphilly County Borough.

The resident who is able to prove they have the oldest fridge freezer in the borough will win a top of the range, energy and money saving Electrolux fridge freezer.

The competition has been organised by the council’s Rural Development Programme, Caerffili Cwm a Mynydd, to raise awareness of how much old appliances can waste energy.

Cllr Dave Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, said: “Residents may think they’re saving money by holding onto an old appliance – but older models actually use more energy. Have a look at the rating on your fridge freezer and see if you could be saving energy and money.”

On average, a 15-year-old fridge or freezer can cost more than £110 per year to run. By upgrading to a more energy efficient model, households could save more than £75 a year.

The competition runs until October 31. To enter call 01495 23544 or email silcok@caerphilly.gov.uk.
