Bargoed readies itself for the Royal Welsh

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 14:16, Thursday September 26th, 2013.

Businesses and residents in Bargoed are getting ready to give the 1st Battalion Royal Welsh a warm welcome when they parade through the town at 12pm this Saturday (September 28).

Traders and homeowners in the town have been busy dressing their shops, homes and streets in anticipation of the parade, which marks the third anniversary of the regiment being granted the freedom of the county borough.

Around 120 members of the regiment – colours flying, bayonets fixed and drums beating – will parade from St Gwladys car park along High Street, Hanbury Road and on to Bargoed Square for an official ceremony. The regiment will then march along Gilfach Street before coming to a halt at the Capel pub junction.

Mayor of Caerphilly county borough Cllr Michael Gray, said: “Excitement is really building ahead of the parade this Saturday. I hope that residents from across the county borough can join us in Bargoed to pay tribute to the brave men and women of the 1st Battalion Royal Welsh.”

For more information about the parade please call 01443 863218.

My mother and I attended this event yesterday and although it rained a little it didn't spoil my enjoyment.

I was quite impressed by the number of people that turned up to support the soldiers, especially by the square.

It's not likely we will see something like this again.
