Caerphilly MP Wayne David has been appointed Labour leader Ed Miliband’s Parliamentary Private Secretary.
Until yesterday’s shadow reshuffle, Mr David was the Shadow Minister for Constitutional and Political Reform. In that role he opposed Tory-led plans to reshape Parliamentary boundaries.
In the previous Labour Government Mr David had been Wales Office Minister.
Mr David said: “I was very honoured to receive a phone call from Ed Miliband.
“Obviously the next 18 months are important because Labour has to focus on winning the next election.
“I will be at Ed’s right hand, advising him on a whole range of different issues and helping to ensure that his message comes across powerfully and clearly. I have known Ed Miliband for a number of years and I can honestly say that he is a man of strength, decency and principle.
“Labour is fast developing clear policies which offer hope to this country and my job is to help Ed get his message across.”
"…helping to ensure that his message comes across powerfully and clearly."
Just over two years since he took leadership and we still don't know what he stands for. It's time he stops criticising everything and suggests alternatives. Labour still doesn't have a manifesto. Politics 101, as soon as you take the reigns, publish a manifesto telling us all what you and your party now stand for.
Is thai a wise appointmant? is Wayne David damaged goods because of the behaviour of the local Labour Party over Council officers payments?.If theres mud it sticks, would you trust the Caerphilly Labour Party in these circumstnces, and should Ed Miliband?. I think hes beginning to do a good job, despite coming from an academic background, and lacking the common touch. But compared to Brown, Blair and Kinnock he`s a success. the odd thing is years ago Glenys Kinnock in her first year at Cardiff University said she was looking from the man from the Socialist Society, instead she found Neil Kinnock, now a Lord, and on a pension of £83000 from the EU alone, if thats Socialism give me some.
In reply to Ron James' comment whatever people think of Wayne David, good or bad, I don't think it is fair to conflate his record with that of the antics of the council over the pay rise scandal. Our MP has no control over the salary deliberations of the Labour and Plaid councillors involved, nor should he.
I do agree with comment on the other 'scandal' mentioned, pension for Eurocrats. The voters should have a say on withdrawal from the EU. I can't see this happening as the people would deliver the 'wrong answer' and opt for withdrawal. Back in 1975 the people gave their blessing for a free trade relationship within Western Europe to foster peace and prosperity. They now find themselves shackled to a monster that answers only to its own needs and desires.
This is the reality of Europe. We as acountry are being rippd off by the EU migrants.
A survey has found there are more than 600,000 unemployed migrants from the European Union living in the UK.
According to The Sunday Telegraph, the EU report concluded that the estimated annual cost to the NHS was £1.5 billion.
The 291-page survey, commissioned by Laszlo Andor, the Brussels commissioner for employment and social inclusion, found that there were 611,779 "non-active" EU migrants in the UK last year compared with 431,687 in 2006.
This equates to an increase of 42 per cent over the period.
The report noted: "Between 2006 and 2012 there has been a steady increase of 42 per cent in the number of non-active EU migrants in the UK.
"While between 2005 and 2006 the growth of non-active EU migrants in the UK stagnated, since 2006 it has been steadily rising.
"A particularly high increase can be noticed between 2009 and 2011.
"The number of jobseeking EU migrants increased by 73 per cent between 2008 and 2011, while the total EU migrant population (active and non-active) increased by only 28 per cent."
