A Girlguide leader has spoken of her once-in-a-lifetime trip to Malawi, where she joined a team of young women taking part in community development work.
Rebecca White, 21, of Pontllanfraith, (above) joined five Girlguiding members this summer to take part in the Guiding Overseas Linked with Development.
During her three-week trip, Rebecca, who is leader of the 2nd Pontllanfraith Guides, took part in a number of exciting projects to develop Girlguiding in Malawi, Africa.
She taught girls aged between 11 and 22 on a range of topics – from fundraising, leadership training and public speaking to teenage health and camping skills.
She said the highlight of the trip was running sessions on teenage heath.
“We had an anonymous Q&A box for the girls, through which we were able to dispel many teenage health rumours and reassure them they were not alone in what they were experiencing.”
Rebecca – who has just graduated from Cardiff University with a degree in English Literature – said the experience has left her with a desire to teach in the future.
