A volunteer who has spent his life helping others has been honoured with an award for his dedication to the voluntary sector in Caerphilly County Borough.
Noel Young MBE, is retiring from his position on the Voluntary Sector Committee at the age of 85 after devoting 15 years to the group, which is made up of several local organisations.
Mr Young was named Supreme Volunteer in 2008 at The Voluntary Sector Achievement Awards, run by Caerphilly County Borough Council and GAVO, for his commitment to the Hospital League of Friends and Barnado’s which sees him working with looked-after young people and adults with learning disabilities who have just left hospital.
He visits older people in hospital, residential care and in their homes.
Bob Cooke, Chair of the committee, presented Mr Young with his award and said: “Noel’s dedication to the voluntary sector, and to the people he works with, knows no bounds. He has always been a dedicated friend and a dedicated voluntary worker.”
