A Caerphilly man has returned from a 2,500 mile drive across eight countries to raise money for a local school.

John Pearse, 58, and his son, Will, 26, took part in the rally to raise funds for Trinity Fields School in Ystrad Mynach.

‘Driving Up Funds’ was a banger rally from France to Italy held last month.

John, a business manager for All Wales People First, along with a hundred other cars, set off for Venice, crossing through eight countries in five days.

John, who took part in a £300 Toyota, said: “Coming back it took us two days of driving before crossing the channel home. We shared the driving, stopping at a few service stations on the way back for sleep but other than that it was incredibly tiring.

“The idea to drive through eight countries came from all of the other guys that took part, they’re all car nuts.
“We had a sponsored service on the car and a few spares, which thankfully we didn’t need, and the car has gone back to the garage now as a courtesy car.”

The final amount raised is still being counted, although donations can be made by contacting Caerphilly People First on 01443 834444.
