Deri’s Parc Cwm Darran is now a protected public open space.
The park has been granted Queen Elizabeth Field II status by Fields in Trust, formerly the National Playing Fields Association.
Protection will be established through an agreement between the landowners, Caerphilly County Borough Council, and the trust which will restricts use of the land for outdoor play, sport and recreation.
Ivor Morgan, Chairman of Fields in Trust Cymru, said: “We’re delighted that Caerphilly County Borough Council nominated Parc Cwm Darran to be protected under the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge.
“Local authorities today may have the best will in the world about protecting public open spaces, but no-one can guarantee what their successors will be tempted to do in 20, 50 or 100 years. The council should therefore be proud of what they are doing for future generations.”
Cllr Ken James, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Sustainable Development said: “Parc Cwm Darran is a fantastic facility for all ages where you can explore a network of footpaths and cycle trails in beautiful countryside so we are only too pleased to secure its future for all its users under this scheme.”
