Police have seized more than 360 cannabis plants from a house in the Blackwood area and arrested two people.
Officers carried out a warrant at the rented property on Lewis Avenue on the evening of Sunday October 27.
They found the property was being used as a cannabis factory and seized a total of 364 plants, along with equipment used to grow the substance.
A 45-year-old woman has been charged with the cultivation of cannabis and extracting electricity and has been remanded in custody.
A 19-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and has been bailed pending further enquiries.
Sergeant Mark Thomas, from the Blackwood Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Thanks to the suspicions raised by local residents and the landlord we have seen a sizeable operation halted. It has meant that drugs that would have possibly been sold in the area have now been taken out of circulation.
“I would advise landlords to ensure that they make stringent checks when renting out properties and ensure that they see photo identification such as a passport or UK driving licence, along with supporting documentation. When houses are used for this illegal activity there is always a lot of damage caused to the property through the equipment used to grow the plants resulting in a high repair cost to the landlord.”
