Caerphilly McDonald’s set for 24 hour opening

A McDonald’s drive-through restaurant is set to open for 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Crossways branch of the American fast food chain, in Caerphilly, wants to serve drivers between 11pm and 6am. The main part of the restaurant is to remain closed.

An application to lengthen the trading hours for an initial 12 month trial period has been lodged with Caerphilly County Borough Council.

The owners of the Crossways pub and the Premier Inn have objected to the application worried about an increase in noise.

Council officers have recommended the application be approved by planning councillors at a meeting on June 8.

If granted, the restaurant will be able to open 24 hours until June 30, 2012. The council will then review the impact of the extended opening hours on surrounding businesses and homes.
