In its day it probably saw and accompanied a host of top stars in Caerphilly’s Double Diamond Club, but this Hammond Organ can now be yours.
This piece of Caerphilly’s social history is for sale on the website CaerphillyAuctions.co.uk.
The website listing reads: “This organ is reputed to be the last working organ to be used at The Double Diamond Club in Caerphilly before it closed down.
“The organist at the time the club closed asked if he could keep the instrument and indeed he did and played it until his recent passing.
“This is a great item of local history and is being sold on behalf of the family at a very low reserve.”
The Double Diamond Club used to be on Mill Road, in Caerphilly, and was a top venue for stars such as Roy Orbison, Cliff Richard and of course Caerphilly’s own Tommy Cooper.
In the 1960s and 1970s, up to 1,000 revellers used to attend the glamorous venue to watch the big acts.

The story isn't strictly true. The organ was actually bought by someone completely unrelated to the Double Diamond many years ago from the auction house in Van Road and it gave him, his family and friends many hours of pleasure. The gentleman who bought it sadly passed away a few years ago and his widow is now selling it.
The Three Degrees, Shirley Bassey, The Nolan's,Bryn Yemm,Norman Wisdom,Diane Cousins,Tommy Cooper just to name a few of the acts we saw at The Double Diamond Club,it was a fantastic Club and being on our door step was a added bonus.
All of the big Acts would play there and I remember The BBC recording a tv series there called Stewart ,Tudor and Cousins ,Johnny Stewart a comedian ,Johnny Tudor Singer and the fabulous Diane Cousins who is currently entertaining on the cruise ships and still sounding great.
The Resident band at The Double Diamond were superb Dennis Bullen and his band then in later years The Clive Sweet Band with Jeff Hooper on vocals,Denny Driscoll was a Compere there also.
At midnight the ceiling lights came on and it was truly dancing with the Stars.
The Double Diamond is missed by many many people.
Great Times for sure.

My father Ron Harding who sadly passed away last friday was the general manager there during its heyday throughout the 70's and my family and I have so many fond memories of that place meeting so many of the stars that performed there. It indeed became a Caerphilly landmark and was a big part of my families life.
Hi , So sorry to hear of your dads passing, I worked in CCP Fencing and did the wages for the DD Club, can you tell me what year it closed down please..
thank you
My late stepfather Clive Sweet was the leader of the band there in the 70's, I remember the Double Diamond well and met loads of stars. The childrens christmas party's were a one to remember.Clive brought the irish singer Dana home once and remember my mother getting her best china out. All my friends wanted to come and see her as she was very popular then and felt so important that I had a star in my house.
I remember seeing Rob Orbison there and he was amazing it was just two days after I married a wonderful welshman he died in 1987 but I have never forgotten that night
