Environmentally conscious pupils and staff at a Caerphilly primary school are celebrating after earning the prestigious Platinum Eco School award.
Plas-y-felin Primary School, near Caerphilly town, is only the seventh school in Caerphilly County borough to be given the coveted award from Keep Wales Tidy.
To celebrate their eco achievement, pupils and staff wore green clothes and held a special assembly to welcome Keep Wales Tidy Officer Matthew Bunt, who presented the school’s Eco Committee with their Platinum Eco School award.
The school achieved the Platinum award after demonstrating their commitment to living greener lifestyles, including growing their own fruit and vegetables, taking steps to reduce energy use and making carbon friendly journeys to school wherever possible.
Headteacher Mark Jones said: “The pupils’ imaginations have been thoroughly captured by the Eco School programme. We have six acres of land here at Plas-y-felin Primary School and we like to make full use of the outside environment. The children have played an active part in gardening and maintaining their new allotment.”
