Police target parking problems in Ystrad Mynach and Nelson

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 10:00, Monday November 18th, 2013.

The Ystrad Mynach policing team issued 48 parking fines in September and ten fines in October.

Officers have been targeting problems in the main shopping areas, especially outside banks in Commercial Street in Nelson and Bedwlwyn Road, Penalta Road and Commercial Street in Ystrad Mynach.

Other parking issues were found outside Llanfabon Primary School and Central Street, Lewis Street and Nelson Road at the start and finish times of school.

PS Lysha Thompson said: “Parking is not a matter which should be trivialised, particularly outside a school which can cause serious repercussions for the safety of pupils attending the school. Double yellow lines are in place for a reason and motorists have a duty to adhere to them.

“As a team we have worked tirelessly to reinforce this message and for the safety of all road users we will continue to take enforcement action where the need arises. Our message is quite simple…Park legally, park safely.”

The police ought to get up to Bargoed. Since the pavements have been reduced to road level, parking has become idiotic with pedestrians endangered by thoughtless and lazy motorists. It's not uncommon to have a vehicle completely blacking a pavement a forcing pedestrians into the road or buses having to mount pavements to avoid a foolishly parked car. It's cost over £20 million to tart up Bargoed, I don't think it should just be seen as a car park.
