Risca teacher struck off after alleged bondage sessions with pupils

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 10:21, Thursday November 28th, 2013.

A former teacher at Risca Comprehensive School has been struck off indefinitely after it was alleged he encouraged pupils to take part in bondage sessions.

Glyn Bevan, 55, of Rogerstone, Newport, was said to have plied boys with drink and drugs at his home.
A General Teaching Council for Wales hearing held on November 27 found that he had committed “unacceptable professional conduct”.

The committee’s chairwoman, Jacquie Turnbull, said Bevan posed a “serious risk to the safety and welfare of pupils”.
Bevan was investigated by Gwent Police three years ago and was charged with three counts of indecent assault of a boy under 16-years-old which he denied.

He was later acquitted of the charges after being declared unfit to stand trial with the Crown Prosecution Service offering no evidence.

He resigned from his post at Risca Community Comprehensive School in 2012.

A joint statement by Caerphilly Council and Risca Community Comprehensive School said: “As soon as allegations against Mr Bevan came to light in November 2010 he was suspended from work by the school and the issue was then dealt with by the police.

“Mr Bevan subsequently resigned from his position at the school. The allegations were historical in nature and related to events which occurred in the mid-1990s.”

Bevan can appeal to the High Court within 28 days.
