A Caerphilly town pub has won acclaim for the quality and standards of its toilets – in the Loo of the Year Awards 2013.

The Malcolm Uphill in Cardiff Road has been awarded a platinum star rating by inspectors – the highest award possible.

Manager Danielle Stephens said: “I am delighted with the award. Staff at the pub work hard to ensure the toilets are in first-class condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors.”

This really is sad. Celebrating clean toilets? They are to be expected and not to be celebrated. You don't celebrate that you've managed to shower everyday of the week to keep clean. Of course not! It's good, basic hygiene.

Congratulations! This is a great result for The Malcolm Uphill and a great result for Caerphilly Town. I hope that all those in Caerphilly can get get behind The Malcolm Uphill and be proud together. Cleanliness is necessary to maintain good health. The award not only inspires those who clean the toilets to keep up their good work but it also encourages those at home to follow suit, and for them too, to keep a clean toilet. Well done to all involved, I look forward to congratulating them next year upon them winning the same award.
