Two parishioners from Caerphilly’s St Catherine’s Church have spent a night under the stars to raise money for a homelessness charity.

Ann Savage-Lewis and Steve Kings, left their home comforts behind on Thursday November 28 to raise money for Crisis at Christmas.

Speaking before sleeping out, Ann said: “We shall be ‘homeless’ for a very short time, but it will give us a taste of what it feels like to have no roof over our heads in winter. We also hope to draw attention to the wonderful work that Crisis at Christmas does.

“It is thanks to the generosity of the British public and hundreds of volunteers who give up their time that help makes Christmas happy for single homeless people.”

Crisis is the national charity for single homeless people, dedicated to putting an end to homelessness by delivering life-changing service and campaigning for change.

Just £21.84 will allow one person to have a place at Crisis this Christmas; providing access to valuable services that can really make a difference.

Ann and Steve will camp out outside St Catherine’s Church, Caerphilly, from 5pm on Thursday, November 28, until 8am the following day.

Earlier this month Cllr Gerald Jones, the deputy leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, spent a night sleeping rough for another homelessness charity.

Cllr Jones took part in the Cardiff Sleep Out at Wales International Sports Stadium on Thursday November 7 to support the Welsh homelessness charity Llamau.

Speaking prior to the event he said: “I have been surprised talking to people in recent months that there are lots of people who are not aware of Llamau and the great work that they do. The added bonus of this event is that it will help to raise much-needed funds for Llamau.”

I think I'll stick to my bed and drop a few quid in the bucket when I pass on a walk to buy fresh, Glanmor's bread.
