THANK YOU: Roy Noble is presented with his pyrography

Broadcaster Roy Noble has been thanked for his support of the Aber Valley Heritage Group, the organisation behind Senghenydd’s National Mining Memorial.

Mr Noble, a former teacher in Senghenydd, is the group’s patron. He was presented with a pyrography likeness of himself created by artist Leighton Davies.

Mr Davies presented the work to Mr Noble last week at Senghenydd Community Centre.

Mr Davies was so moved by Mr Noble’s speech at the recent service for the 100th anniversary of the Senghenydd Mining Disaster that he wanted to say a thank you on behalf of the group and created the artwork.

The Wales National Mining Memorial was unveiled in October on the centenary of the Universal Colliery disaster.
It is dedicated to all miners who lost their lives in mining disasters across the country.

Mr Noble gave a moving speech in which he paid tribute to the men who “paid the ultimate sacrifice in their quest for coal”.

The memorial garden was built by volunteers from the Aber Valley Heritage Group.
