A 14-year-old boy and his 11-year-old sister were verbally threatened by a man and a woman as they walked across the footbridge at Llanbradach train station.
British Transport Police are investigating the incident, which happened at about 3.30pm on Monday December 9, and have made an appeal to trace the couple
Investigating officer, PC Mike Watson, said: “The victims were walking across the footbridge at Llanbradach station and reported that two people walking in front of them – a man and a woman – repeatedly turned around and stared at them.
“When challenged by one of the victims as to why they kept staring at them, the man turned and threatened to punch the 14-year-old boy in the face and verbally abused the girl, who was only 11. The pair then left the station.
“This was a cowardly act carried out on two young children who were clearly vulnerable due to their age.”
After reviewing CCTV footage, officers have identified two people they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.
The first, a man, is described as white, 5ft 8in, in his early to mid 20s and of slim build. He was wearing a black woollen hat, red T-shirt, grey jogging bottoms and dark trainers, and was carrying a white carrier bag.
The second person officers would like to speak to is a white woman, around 5ft 6in, approximately 18 or 19 years old and of slim build with long black hair. She was wearing a grey three-quarter length jacket with black leggings and white trainers.
“We believe they both caught a train to Llanbradach from Caerphilly, having come from the direction of Caerphilly town centre,” said PC Watson.
“We are very keen to trace these individuals as we believe they may have key information that could help with our enquiries.
“This must have been an extremely frightening and intimidating experience for the victims and I am urging anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.
