Work on £1.6 million worth of improvements at Ystrad Mynach train station is due to begin in the new year.
The revamp will see the construction of a new ticket office and passenger waiting facilities on both platforms.
Ystrad Mynach is one of five stations across Wales being upgraded, as part of a £24m programme, thanks to funding from the Welsh Government, the European Union’s European Regional Development Fund, Network Rail and Arriva Trains Wales.
Minister for Transport Edwina Hart said: “I am very pleased to see work start on this programme of improvements which will transform five stations across Wales. Using European funds, this programme will help meet our objectives of delivering a modern, accessible and affordable rail system for Wales.
“Trains are a vital service for many people to access jobs and services. We want to make our rail stations accessible to all and ensure a pleasant experience for passengers.”
Earlier this month saw the new £5.2m Energlyn and Churchill Park train station open on the Rhymney Valley line.
