Tributes paid to tragic Maesycymmer teenager Joshua Woodyatt

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:00, Thursday January 9th, 2014.

Tributes have been paid to a 16-year-old boy who suddenly died while on a night out with friends.

Joshua Woodyatt, from Maesycymmer, was out with friends on December 22 and had complained of feeling hot.

At around 7pm that night in Cefn Hengoed he suddenly collapsed. He had gone outside for fresh air from a friend’s Christmas party.

Friends said the asthma suffer had been using his inhaler all evening.

A post-mortem revealed his death was related to asthma and that there was nothing suspicious.
In a statement his family paid tribute to their son.

They said: “Andrew and Sian Woodyatt, of Park Road, Maesycwmmer, sadly announce the passing of their beloved son, Josh, aged 16, suddenly of natural causes on Sunday, December 22.

“Josh will be greatly missed by sister Bethan and maternal and paternal grandparents and their families.
“The family wish to thank everyone for their sympathy and support at this terrible time.”

The 16-year-old’s grandfather is Maesycymmer councillor Robin Woodyatt.

Cllr Harry Andrews, leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: “On behalf of all at Caerphilly County Borough Council, our thoughts are very much with Robin and the Woodyatt family at this very difficult time.
“Staff and colleagues have offered their full support to Cllr Woodyatt in the wake of this terribly sad news.”

A service for Josh was held at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Maesycwmmer on January 8.
