Remploy workers find employment with Caerphilly Council

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 16:00, Monday January 13th, 2014.

Eleven former Remploy workers who lost their jobs when their factories were closed have found work with Caerphilly County Borough Council.

The council has been working in partnership with Jobcentre Plus to support the ex-Remploy employees into work. Funding from Welsh Government and Department for Work and Pensions has enabled specialist help to be provided.

Cllr Harry Andrews, leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: “The closing of the Remploy factories in the region had a major impact on its employees, so I’m delighted that the council has been able to provide employment for so many former Remploy workers.

“We will continue to work with our partners to do what we can to provide ex-Remploy employees who are still out of work with the support they require to make their way back to the workplace.”

Bernadette Jones, Jobcentre Plus District Manager, said: “I am extremely pleased to be working in partnership with Caerphilly County Borough Council.

“Jobcentre Plus specialist personal advisors have done a great job in giving assistance to all the ex-workers affected by the closure.

“Through the £8m Personal Help and Support Package, 54 people have been helped into mainstream employment.”
