As part of a series of events organised by Chapter Arts and Cadw, Caerphilly Castle will be turned into a picture house with a showing of two classic horror films and two family favourites.

At 8pm on Saturday February 8, the castle’s Great Hall will be screening the 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein, starring Boris Karloff. When the Monster demands a mate, Henry Frankenstein is coerced into finding the perfect woman for his creation.

At 5pm there will be a showing of 1990’s Edward Scissorhands.

When an inventor dies before his creation is finished, the innocent and childlike Edward is left with only a set of lethal, razor sharp shears on the end of each arm.

On Sunday, at 8pm, the hall be playing the 1922 vampire film Nosferatu. A simple property deal leads an intrepid businessman deep into the superstitious heart of a village, where the otherworldly Count Orlok rules.

This gothic tale will be accompanied by a live soundtrack performed by Steepways Sound Collective.

Sunday’s 5pm film will be Disney’s tangled.

The long-haired Princess Rapunzel has spent her entire life in a tower, but when she falls in love with a passing bandit, she must venture into the outside world for the first time to find him.

Ffion Reynolds, public engagement manager for Cadw, said: “These events are set to be really special. The dramatic castle surroundings and added special effects will enhance the overall experience for our audience, allowing them to truly capture the thrill of cinema.”

• Tickets cost £12/£10 and are available from www.chapter.org or by calling 02920 304 400.
