Plotting a course for arts and crafts in Caerphilly

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 12:16, Wednesday February 26th, 2014.

Artists and craftspeople looking to raise their profile and gain new customers in Caerphilly county borough are being urged to join an exciting arts project.

Caerphilly’s Rural Development Plan (RDP) programme and Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Arts Development Team are on the hunt for professional artists and craftspeople to be part of a county-wide cultural map.

The partnership is hoping to develop a highly visible network for creative people that will feature biographies, contact details and the locations of producers. It will feature high quality professional artists and will be available at libraries

Cllr Ken James, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Sustainable Development, said: “If you are an artist or crafter working in the borough then we really want to hear from you. We hope this will be an incentive to visitors and locals alike to discover the eclectic array of work in Caerphilly county borough. This also presents an exciting opportunity for local crafts people to access new markets and fly the flag for the county borough’s emerging arts movement.”

The launch of the cultural map will coincide with a planned ‘open week’ where those featured on the map will open up studios and workshops for people to visit, meet the artists and see the creative process in action.

If you wish to express an interest in being featured please contact Gavin Jones by February 28 on 01443 838632 or email jonesgm2@caerphilly.gov.uk.
