A social enterprise which recycles old furniture has been praised for its business model.

Furniture Revival, based in Rhymney, was established in 1999 under the name Community Furniture Enterprise.

Since then, the project has helped more than 14,000 households in Caerphilly County Borough and now employs 13 staff.
The business was recently visited by Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney MP Dai Havard, Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney AM Huw Lewis and Welsh MEP Derek Vaughan.

The trio of Labour politicians visited Furniture Revival to see how European funding is helping to stop unwanted furniture and electricals being sent to landfill.

Mr Lewis said: “The tough times faced by people in Rhymney and across the country mean there’s more need than ever for projects like Furniture Revival.

“Reusing furniture and electrical goods is not only good for the environment but it helps thousands of local people.”
The company has recently launched a scheme which collects reusable, leftover paint and redistributes it for use.”
