Caerphilly youngsters urged to vote for Youth Champion

News | Gareth Hill | Published: 15:00, Friday March 14th, 2014.

Youngsters in Caerphilly County Borough are being urged to head for the voting polls to elect their new Youth Champion.

The Youth Champion works to protect the rights of young people and strengthen the links between elected members and young people in their communities.

The post holder also works closely with the Youth Forum, schools and youth groups, and ensures the council listens to the needs of its young residents.

The winning candidate in the upcoming elections will undertake a two-year term in office.

Voting will take place through a traditional ballot, with ballot boxes placed in schools on Thursday March 20, accompanied by an online vote.

The new Youth Champion’s two-year term in office will begin on Friday March 21.

Another pointless idea that wastes money. CCBC really so love wasting money? Have an online questionnaire to to take into account the view of young residents. You don't need a Youth Champion.

What muppet dreampt up this superficial idea and how much is s/he being paid?

It's all very interesting! The two candidates are, after looking around, both in their 50's. I assumed that the champion would be an elder student from a local school who would meet with the council (much like the Youth Mayor programme in RCT) I was mistaken. Can the two candidates really connect to the youth? I don't think so. CCBC should look at RCT for pointers.

A waste of money; Cheryl is right the post should be held by someone who is youthful (and preferably non- party political) or else dispensed with.

Saw the posts from the candidates about how they want to represent the people of Caerphilly. Slight preference for the woman.

For Dean – You say this role is a waste of money, the actual champion doesn't get paid for being the Youth Champion. People are so quick to disregard the Councillors, if you think you can do better stand for election yourself.
