JOBS GUARANTEE: Islwyn MP Chris Evans pledges to fund jobs for young people
JOBS GUARANTEE: Islwyn MP Chris Evans pledges to fund jobs for young people

Islwyn MP Chris Evans has signed up to Labour’s pledge to tax bankers’ bonuses to fund jobs for young people.

Mr Evans signed up to the pledge as latest figures in Islwyn revealed that youth unemployment still stands at 9.4%.

Calling on the government to introduce Labour’s plan for a compulsory jobs guarantee for any young person out of work for a year; and for any older person out of work for more than two years, Mr Evans said it was vital that action was taken to get young people into work.

Mr Evans, who is a member of Labour’s Shadow Treasury team said: “It is tragic that so many 18-24 year olds are out of work. Some have never had a job and we are running the risk of seeing a lost generation of young people.

“With youth unemployment so high in Islwyn it is absolutely vital that action is taken.

“To me, the government should follow Labour’s lead and bring about a compulsory jobs guarantee as a matter of urgency. “
