Plaid Cymru councillor Mike Prew has been re-elected as Caerphilly’s Youth Champion for two more years.

In a vote among young people he defeated Labour councillor Elaine Forehead by 2,099 votes to 1,250.

The councillor was first elected as Youth Champion in 2008  and continued in the post ever since.

Cllr Prew, who represents the Morgan Jones ward, said: “I’m honoured to have been re-elected by young people as their voice in Caerphilly County Borough and I will continue to do my best to support them wherever possible.”

“Young people feel excluded from decisions affecting them and that needs to change. Authorities and governments must change their attitude to young people.”

Mike praised the work of Caerphilly Youth Forum, which has been existence for more than a decade, giving young people aged 11-25 the chance to have their voices heard.
