Rhymney Park and Ride to be expanded

News | Gareth Hill | Published: 13:00, Friday April 4th, 2014.

Work has begun to double the number of spaces at the Park and Ride at Rhymney Train Station.

The development will provide an extra 25 spaces taking the parking provision to 50.

CCTV and street lighting will also be installed under the £6.6m development funded by European Union and Welsh Government money.

Cllr Tom Williams, Cabinet Member for Highways, Transportation and Engineering said: “Through the expansion and upgrade of the Park and Ride facilities at Rhymney station we’re working to make rail services more attractive and accessible to all rail users in this part of our county borough.

“Train travel continues to be extremely popular, and upon completion of this expansion scheme we hope to attract even more passengers, which will not only help reduce congestion, but also benefit the environment as a more eco-friendly, sustainable way of travelling.”
