Caerphilly Council bailiff fees to rise

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 08:58, Monday April 7th, 2014.

Council tax and business rate payers will have to pay higher fees if bailiffs are used to reclaim arrears from April 6.

Payers who are subject to a Magistrates Court Liability Order will have to pay considerably more if their case is passed onto enforcement officers under new UK Government regulations.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has urged people struggling to pay their council tax to contact 01443863002 or counciltax@caerphilly.gov.uk and 01443 863006 for business rates.

Now that`s the way for the Caerphilly Council to support ailing and struggling local small traders and families who are living in poverty, ( According to Government statistics)( SIC).

The report is also misleading in that it appears to suggest these increases are due to `new UK Government regulations`, that statement is not accurate, the CONTRACT between CAERPHILLY COUNCIL and THE BAILIFF COMPANY to collect these debts is a matter for the Council and the Private Collection Company, the fees are `agreed` by CAERPHILLY COUNCIL in those contracts. Bailiff Companies all make different charges which are based on their particular business model.

So these fees are due to the considerations of the CAERPHILLY BOROUGH COUNCIL and NOT THE UK GOVERNMENT.
