The A469 between New Tredegar and Pontlottyn is set to reopen after weeks of motoring misery in the Upper Rhymney.
The road, which had been closed for several weeks for repairs after a landslip and burst water main, will reopen on the evening of Friday April 11. The road had orginally been planned to reopen on Monday.
Cllr Tom Williams, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, visited the site on Thursday, along with local members Cllr Gaynor Oliver and Cllr David Hardacre, to view progress ahead of the opening.
Cllr Williams said: “Both the council and Welsh Water have pulled out all the stops to reopen this road and I would like to thank all involved for their hard work and commitment over the past few weeks. The closure has been a major inconvenience for local people and this has focussed our determination to resolve the problem as a matter of urgency.
“I’m sure the whole community will welcome this news and I’d like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding during these essential works.
Welsh Water has replaced a 540m stretch of high pressure water main at the site and Caerphilly County Borough Council has carried out drainage improvements, retaining wall construction and repairs to the road surface.

IM 17 and got a job in Merthyr tydfil, i live in fochriw and rely on busses, its wrong that we get a bus every hour coming through fochriw. The first bus arrives in fochriw at 7:17 and arrives in Merthyr dead on 8:00. Well my starting time is 8:00 for work so these bus time are not sufficient for me. Why cant we have an earlier bus, why does the first one have to be 7:17
